Import/Export Specialist (Customs) 
Responsibilities included: 

•  Examine and appraise merchandise and accompanying documentation according to import/export requirements, considering legal restrictions, country of origin, import quotas, and current market values.
•  Request laboratory testing and analyzes of merchandise as needed.
•  Interview importer and examine their records to verify integrity of invoices.
•  Responsible for the overall coordination of international shipments with freight forwarders and carriers.
•  Research and route shipment based on company and customer service/cost requirements.
•  Develop container and shipment load optimization procedures and policies.
•  Analyze rate and prepare cost/volume and other ad hoc reports.
•  Responsible for the development and training of Logistics Coordinators.
•  Coordinate with customer service, quality, carriers, suppliers, and buyers to ensure the lowest cost transportation options are utilized that meet the transit time requirements.
•  Develop analytical and reporting tools related to shipping patterns, freight expense, freight allowances and compliance issues of each vendor.
•  Prepare and utilize ad-hoc queries of freight expense database to identify opportunities and risks.
•  Evaluate sourcing decisions based on location and modal cost analyzes.
•  Responsible for ensuring compliance with all import and export regulations prior to Customs entry and communicate with Customs brokers and overseas partners to ensure timely clearance.
•  Conduct pre-entry reviews and coordinate with Customs Brokers to ensure accurate and complete entries to Customs.
•  Work with purchasing department to coordinate inbound shipments, changes to ETA, etc.
•  Track and trace international and domestic shipments including working to release product delayed by random Customs audits.
